Johns Hopkins researchers say they have identified a set of genes that appear to predict which tumors can evade detection by the body's immune system, a step that may enable them to eventually target only the patients most likely to respond best to a new class of treatment.
First Service Administrators, Inc. (FSAI), a leading risk manager for the health care industry and mid- to large-sized public and private employers, announced it has acquired the self-funded division of Fringe Benefits Management Company (FBMC).
Complete Genomics Inc., a third-generation human genome sequencing company, today announced that the Institute for Systems Biology employed Complete Genomics' human genome sequencing service to sequence a family quartet to determine the depth of genetic information possible in analyzing a full family's sequence, and to verify the gene responsible for Miller syndrome, a rare craniofacial disorder.
Researchers are reporting the impressive results of a new cell and gene therapy that has achieved unprecedented success in treating multiple myeloma patients. Although the study is an early one and the population only included 35 people, every one of the patients responded to the treatment and 33 (94%) were in some degree of clinical remission within two months.
