3M Health Care today announced the launch of 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing for patients, a comprehensive solution with transparent, breathable film, a stabilization border and new, comfort adhesive technology. The new dressing is perceived by clinicians to reduce catheter manipulation and resist staining which could lead to less frequent dressing changes, and may provide a cost savings option for hospitals.
Columbia University Medical Center researchers have identified a gene, called matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), that appears to play a major role in motor neuron degeneration in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The findings, made in mice, explain why most but not all motor neurons are affected by the disease and identify a potential therapeutic target for this still-incurable neurodegenerative disease. The study was published today in the online edition of the journal Neuron.
A recent study examined the risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy, finding that no severe adverse outcomes are expected to either party.
Endometriosis is a chronic and incurable gynecologic disorder that affects approximately 10 percent of women in the United States. Its symptoms can be debilitating and include chronic pelvic pain, painful periods and pain during intercourse.
UPM researchers are involved in a European network to develop an endoscopic scanner for early detection of certain types of cancers that have a high mortality rate today.
