Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have shed new light on how surgery impacts both chronic kidney disease and bone health, particularly in women.
The SARS epidemic of 2002-2003 was short-lived, but a novel type of human coronavirus that is alarming public health authorities can infect cells from humans and bats alike, a fact that could make the animals a continuing source of infection, according to a study to be published in in mBio-, the online open-access journal of the American Society for Microbiology, on December 11.
Funded by a $1.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), scientists at Binghamton University, State University of New York, hope to understand how the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum evolved resistance to the once-effective medication chloroquine.
Dr. Comerford is the President and CEO of the New Hope Foundation, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the treatment of alcoholism, drug addiction and compulsive gambling. The Foundation provides state-of-the-art care, with the ongoing certification of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
