The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first ceramic-on-metal total artificial hip system for osteoarthritis patients, a device made by Johnson & Johnson's DePuy Orthopaedics unit, the agency said Tuesday. The Pinnacle Complete Acetabular Hip System, combining a ceramic ball and a metal socket, has been sanctioned for people with osteoarthritis, the agency said in a news release.
The American College of Rheumatology has released an updated position statement on patient safety and site of service for biologics outlining several reasons why the ACR strongly believes infusions should be administered in a monitored health care setting with onsite supervision by a provider with appropriate training in biologic infusions.
Despite more than two decades of advances in diagnostic criteria and technology, symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and Related Dementias too often go unrecognized or are misattributed, causing delays in appropriate diagnoses and care that are both harmful and costly.
The SARS crisis was a reminder of the need for a strong commitment to enhancing public health infrastructure and global co-operation against communicable diseases.
