Researchers at the Kennedy Krieger Institute announced today the results of a pilot study demonstrating use of a virtual therapeutic sailing simulator as an important part of rehabilitation following a spinal cord injury. Published in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, findings show that using a hands-on sailing simulator over a 12-week period helped participants safely learn sailing skills in a controlled environment, ultimately improving their quality of life by gaining the ability to participate in a recreational sport.
Bangladesh will conduct the world's largest clinical trial of an affordable cholera vaccine which could save tens of thousands of lives. The study began Thursday and involves nearly 250,000 people near the capital, Dhaka.
Fractures of the clavicle, or collarbone, are common. Unfortunately, current fixation plates that are used to surgically stabilize these fractures are suboptimal, leading to reoperation rates of up to 53%. A new study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research indicates that custom plates developed through computer modeling may be a better option.
Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc. reported financial results for the three months ended December 31, 2011, which reflect the Company's continuing investment in the U.S. launch of KRYSTEXXA(pegloticase). Savient ended the quarter with approximately $170 million in cash and short-term investments, a decrease of $33 million for the quarter.
China Medicine Corporation has announced that the Company's proprietary ADTZ product was discussed as a viable means to reduce aflatoxins in the creation of ethanol based products from corn feed at the recent American Chemical Society, 233rd National Meeting Agricultural Biomass, Biobased Products, & Biofuels Symposium, which was held in Chicago, Illinois on March 25th through the 29th.
