A new national study published in Public Health Nutrition on July 15 found that Americans experiencing food insufficiency were three times as likely to lack mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic than those not experiencing food insufficiency.
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) released five cancer research requests for applications (RFA) just three months after receiving its first funding. In May, 2009, the 81st Legislature appropriated $450 million dollars in bond proceeds for the next two years for CPRIT to fund cancer research and prevention grants that will expedite innovation in cancer treatment and expand cancer prevention services in the state.
Researchers at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Arizona State University have published the first study of levels of parabens - antibacterial substances commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics and other products - in human cord blood samples. The researchers found that a cohort of pregnant women in Brooklyn predominantly of Caribbean- and African-American descent had the highest level worldwide of methyl paraben and propyl paraben.
