Researchers have examined the potential benefits of melatonin, a hormone made by a small gland in the brain, for treating blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.

The Fox Chase Cancer Center has received an $8 million grant from the National Center for Research Resources of the National Institutes of Health (NCRR/NIH) to expand their laboratory animal research facility. The new facility will support advanced research into the fundamental biological processes underlying cancer, opening the way for the development of new treatments. The funds for the grant were made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Discovery Laboratories, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on developing aerosolized KL4 surfactant therapies for respiratory diseases, today announced that it has initiated its AEROSURF phase 2b clinical trial in premature infants 26 to 32 weeks gestational age (GA) receiving non-invasive nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).
A new study in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) found a 68% increase in the overall risk of miscarriage in pregnant women using antidepressants.
