According to a new study the combination of alcohol and second-hand smoke can cause damage to the heart.
Fred Sawe, deputy director of the Kenya Medical Research Institute/Walter Reed Project HIV Program in Kericho, Kenya, and Mitchell Warren, executive director of AVAC: Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention, report in Global Health Magazine that "[t]he Department of the Army is set to slash 73 percent of the U.S. Military HIV Research Program's (MHRP) Army research budget for FY13 through FY17," a move they write is a threat to HIV vaccine progress.
Ariel Pablos-Mendez, USAID assistant administrator for global health, writes in USAID's "IMPACTblog," "Recently, we reorganized the Global Health Bureau to establish an Office of Health Systems, which will be the hub for the Agency's worldwide leadership network of technical experts in health systems strengthening."
Young people who are genetically vulnerable to depression should be extra careful about using cannabis: smoking cannabis leads to an increased risk of developing depressive symptoms.
