The threat of bullying doesn't stop at the schoolyard gate nor does it end when the final bell signals the beginning of summer vacation, warns Dr. Jennifer Caudle of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Caudle is a family physician who has lectured on the subject of bullying to thousands of schoolchildren, parents and educators across the country.
In a New York Times opinion piece that focuses on health reform in the U.S., Shannon Brownlee, a senior research fellow at the New America Foundation and David Goodman, a professor at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, discuss an amendment that teaching hospitals in the U.S. hope will make it into final health care legislation. The amendement would add 15,000 residency slots to the 100,000 residencies supported by the federal government.
The formation of abnormal strands of protein called amyloid fibrils - associated with two dozen diseases ranging from Alzheimer's to type-2 diabetes - may not be permanent and irreversible as previously thought, scientists are reporting in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
It's that time of year again. The annual benefits open enrollment period for the majority of AvMed Health Plans' large group clients, (50 or more eligible employees), began September 1 and will continue through mid-December 2009.
