Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., today announced that COPAXONE (glatiramer acetate injection), the #1 global therapy for relapsing multiple sclerosis, has been named the 2014 "Brand of The Year" by Pharmaceutical Executive Magazine, a leading print and online publication for the biopharmaceutical industry.
Scientists have determined that Helicobacter pylori, the bacterium that causes peptic ulcers and some forms of stomach cancer, requires the vitamin B6 to establish and maintain chronic infection, according to research published this week in the online journal mBio-. This finding, along with the identification of the enzyme the microbe requires to utilize the vitamin, could lead to the development of an entirely new class of antibiotics.
"Sick people need to be able to rely on their doctors not just for an expert recital of choices" when it comes to medical treatment, "but also for advice about what to do, and doctors should accept responsibility for the outcome," Marcia Angell, a senior lecturer at Harvard Medical School and guest columnist for the Boston Globe, writes in an opinion piece.
On Saturday, investigators presented positive safety and cognitive efficacy data for ANAVEX 2-73, the Company's lead investigational oral treatment for Alzheimer's disease targeting sigma-1 and muscarinic receptors, which are believed to reduce protein misfolding including reduction of beta amyloid, tau protein and inflammation at the international CTAD 2015 conference in Barcelona, Spain.
Spanish consumers are defenceless against deceptive advertising broadcasted on the radio in areas that could affect their health, according to a study carried out by two lecturers at the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. The project reports that this infringement of law takes place specifically in health-related advertisements.
