A study published today in the American Journal of Psychiatry suggests an association between smoking during pregnancy and increased risk for developing bipolar disorder in adult children.
A federal appeals court gave the OK for Texas to reinstate a controversial abortion law while its legal fate is being decided and reversed a decision issued earlier this week blocking the law, which now goes back into effect immediately. It requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals and limits medication-induced abortions.
In a study to determine the best cryopreservation (freezing) solution to maintain induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, a team of researchers from Japan compared 12 kinds of commercially prepared and readily available cryopreservation solutions and found that "Cell Banker 3" out-performed the other 11 solutions by allowing iPS cells to be preserved for a year at -80 degrees C in an undifferentiated state.
America's largest, most influential physician group said "it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan, which President Obama and many other Democrats see as an essential element of legislation to remake the health care system," the New York Times reports.
