A new study in Health Services Research finds nearly three-quarters of physicians using electronic health records (EHRs) in 2011 said there were clinical benefits when patients' medical histories were kept in digital files. The study focused on doctors' perceptions of clinical benefits to patient care when EHRs were in place.
The procedure is less invasive than surgery but is still unproven for many patients, The Wall Street Journal reports. Meanwhile, the Journal also looks at how some doctors are using Google Glass to have more time with their patients.
Genzyme Corporation announced today that the FDA notified the company yesterday afternoon that, while the agency recognizes Genzyme's efforts, it intends to take enforcement action to ensure that products manufactured at the plant are made in compliance with good manufacturing practice regulations. The FDA enforcement action will likely result in a consent decree, under which a third party would inspect and review the plant's operation for an extended period and certify compliance with FDA regulations.
Sleep-deprived surgeons can perform a previously learned task or learn a new task as well as surgeons who are rested, according to Penn State College of Medicine researchers. However, in sleep-deprived surgeons, the brain must work harder, which could lead to problems during unexpected events.
