AutoGenomics, a leader in providing automated, molecular testing solutions, announced today that it has launched a new test for the identification of genetic mutations implicated in the development of Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF). The INFINITI® Familial Mediterranean Fever Panel provides simultaneous multiplexed determination of 13 genetic variants common to more than 10 afflicted ethnicities of Mediterranean origin on the automated INFINITI® Analyzer. FMF is prominently present in the Armenian people, Sephardi Jews, Greeks, Arabs and Turks.
A predisposition for obesity might be wired into the brain from the start, suggests a new study of rats in the February issue of Cell Metabolism, a publication of Cell Press.
Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer. Response to standard-of-care treatment is poor, with a two-year survival rate of only 15 percent.
When combined with diet, exercise and behavioral therapy, orlistat, a drug that decreases fat absorption, appears helpful for improving weight management in obese adolescents, compared with placebo, according to an article in the June 15 issue of JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association.
