Experiments by Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) researchers have revealed it might be possible for randomness in gene expression to lead to differences in cells — or people, for that matter — that are genetically identical.
Prof Cornely heads the Clinical Trials Center and the Translational Research Platform at the CECAD Excellence Cluster at the University of Cologne. In addition to his research activities, as a senior physician at the Clinic I of Internal Medicine of the Cologne University Hospital he is responsible for clinical therapies for mycological infections.
The Brain Research Foundation (BRF) today announced that it will provide a major grant that will further research funded by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) which evaluated whether structured exercise slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a progressive and costly disease, but remains under-diagnosed and under treated. While current PAD treatments are effective at clearing artery blockages in the lower leg, high recurrence rates and the subsequent need for repeat procedures are costly. Even after initial procedures to clear blockages in leg arteries, hospitalizations and associated costs in patients with peripheral artery disease increase as the condition progresses, according to research reported in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, an American Heart Association journal.
A University of Georgia researcher has found that low levels of vitamin D may limit the effectiveness of HIV treatment in adults.
