Colorado-based Traceability Institute announced today the dates of the first executive summit designed to initiate consensus to achieve multi-system interoperability with the goal of accomplishing a more sustainable and safer US food supply chain.
Going to court to get access to essential medicines may be necessary and has been successful in several cases, but it should only be used as a last resort, according to an article in this week's issue of The Lancet.
Octapharma AG is leading an international initiative focused on confronting the major risk associated with hemophilia A therapy - anti-factor VIII (FVIII) antibodies, also known as inhibitors. This initiative, combined with Octapharma's efforts to pursue the first recombinant FVIII therapy produced from a human cell line, could dramatically impact the treatment of an estimated one in every 5,000 to 10,000 men born with hemophilia A worldwide.
A recent survey of hospitals has shown that the successful implementation of good hand washing practices in hospitals by nurses and doctors is effective in reducing the drug resistant superbugs. This comes after the introduction of a national program to boost hand hygiene compliance rates in hospitals by encouraging staff to use alcohol-based hand rubs before and after treating patients. To make it easier for hospital workers to clean their hands, alcohol-based hand rubs are being installed at the foot or near the head of every bed.
Every other month, Tanya Nelson travels 32 miles from the heart of Appalachia's coal country for an appointment with the nearest psychiatrist for therapy and to renew prescriptions. But the commute, which should take less than an hour through the winding mountain roads of southern West Virginia, consumes her entire day.
