New SACS Instrument launched to assess and classify peristomal skin lesions

A new evidence-based instrument to assess and classify peristomal skin lesions was launched at the 2010 Joint Conference of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society and World Council of Enterostomal Therapists. The instrument, known as the SACS Instrument, represents the first content-validated instrument to objectively assess and classify peristomal lesions by type and location in relation to an individual's stoma.

Human milk oligosaccharides may reduce risk of mother-to-child HIV transmission

An international team of researchers has found that certain bioactive components found in human milk are associated with a reduced risk of HIV transmission from an HIV infected mother to her breast-fed infant.
