The Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN) today announced the upcoming NanoBio Executive Roundtable event to be hosted at RTP Foundation in Durham, NC on May 17, 2011. In the spring of 2017, 12,146 individuals with hypothyroidism responded to an online survey posted on a variety of websites and social media for two months by the Program Committee of the Satellite Symposium on Hypothyroidism, organized by the American Thyroid Association.

Artificial testes being developed to help infertile men produce sperm

Californian researchers are trying to create an artificial testicle that will produce human sperm. Dr. Paul Turek, director of the Turek Clinic in San Francisco, which specializes in male infertility, said the goal is not to create a testicular implant for men, but a "sperm-making biological machine" that will help scientists learn more about just what causes male infertility. "We're trying to recreate the process of sperm production in a three-dimensional system," Turek said. "Simple laboratory conditions can't get it done in humans. Our concept is to actually recreate the testicle itself."

Malaria vaccine candidate looks extremely promising

In a proof-of-concept study published this week in The Lancet, researchers report that GlaxoSmithKline's RTS,S/AS02A malaria vaccine candidate protected a significant percentage of children against uncomplicated malaria, infection, and even severe forms of the disease for at least six months.

Pfizer stops all Torcetrapib trials

On December 2, 2006, FDA was notified that Pfizer will suspend a large, Phase 3 trial evaluating the investigational cardiovascular therapy torceptrapib/atorvastatin (T/A) due to an increased rate of mortality (death) in patients receiving the combination compared to those receiving atorvastatin alone.
