Employers nationwide are recognizing that the federal government intends to expand and strengthen Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) authority, and ensure strict adherence to industry-specific guidelines. National claims and risk management service provider Avizent is preparing for these changes by expanding its in-house Loss Control program to serve clients nationwide.
Today, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) called 2010 "a watershed year" for lung cancer that included increased research funding, additional Congressional support, a new national coalition of key policy organizations, and the validation of CT screening - a convergence of forces that can reverse the historic underfunding and neglect of lung cancer.
Researchers have for decades hypothesized that negative emotions lead to inflated reports of common physical symptoms, like headaches or an upset stomach. But a new University of Iowa study suggests that two negative emotions - depression and anxiety - influence symptom reporting in different ways.
A multicenter registry has demonstrated that the use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) to combat sudden cardiac death in high-risk pediatric patients suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The study is being presented Nov. 5 at the 2012 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association (AHA) in Los Angeles.
In this Kaiser Health News column, Brian Klepper and David Kibbe write: "Many reformers undoubtedly believe that passage of the health overhaul law laid the issue to rest. But policy's wheels continue to turn, and the process is anything but over" (9/20).
