By combining three previously unrelated imaging tools into one new device, a team of researchers from the University of Connecticut and the University of Southern California has proposed a new way to diagnose early-stage ovarian cancer in high-risk women through minimally invasive surgery. The new technique may be better than the current standard procedure of preemptively removing the ovaries.
Many surgeons and physicians have assumed that patients undergoing surgery for a hip fracture have a higher risk of death and major complications compared to patients undergoing an elective total hip replacement because patients having surgery for a hip fracture are older and have more chronic diseases than patients having an elective hip surgery.
More than seven million people have signed up for insurance on the new federal and state health exchanges, President Obama said this week. Millions more could be added to that total once insurers tally up the people who bought policies directly from them and when those who tried to apply on balky websites are able to complete the process.
Three micro RNA genes appear to be key partners of protective gene p53; their loss is linked to common type of lung cancer
Vical Incorporated today announced the enrollment of the first subject in its Phase 1 trial of the company's Vaxfectin®-formulated plasmid DNA (pDNA) pandemic influenza vaccine. The trial will be conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC).
