Researchers of the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet and the University of Cologne, Germany, have identified a new protein involved in a defense mechanism against cancer.
Canadian researchers have developed a vaccine to stop the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS) and they say encouraging results have already been seen.
A study led by Dr Emma Sweeney and Adjunct Associate Professor Christine Knox, from QUT's Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, with colleagues at the University of Queensland, showed that the growth of some microbes was inhibited for up to 24 hours following breastmilk and saliva mixing.
"Since a lot of health revolves around information, public health experts had high expectations for the mobile phone," author and columnist Tina Rosenberg writes in the New York Times' "Opinionator" blog, adding, "But roughly a decade after the start of mHealth, as the mobile health field has come to be known, these expectations are far from being met.
Canada's first human gene therapy trial for eyes - the replacement of a faulty gene with a healthy one - is now underway at the Royal Alexandra Hospital to preserve and potentially restore vision for people with a genetic disorder that leaves them blind by middle age.
