The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recently awarded a $50,000 AACN Impact Research Grant to Brigit Carter, RN, PhD, MSN, CCRN, assistant clinical professor at Duke University School of Nursing, Durham, N.C., to study feeding intolerance in preterm infants.
A five-year programme that mobilised communities to improve the quality of care for mothers and newborns reduced newborn mortality by 30 percent and saved at least 1,000 newborn lives in rural Malawi.
Health experts have been saying that mobile phones are bad for us for a long time. Now they are getting set to prove it beyond any doubt. Researchers in London recently launched the world's largest study on the safety of using mobile phones. A quarter of a million mobile phone users will be tracked through their medical records for more than 20 years. This is the largest study in the world on the health effects of using mobile phones and is being called Cosmos.
Neurologix, Inc., a biotechnology company engaged in the development of innovative therapies for the brain and central nervous system, announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (US PTO) has expanded the intellectual property protections enabled by a previously issued patent that is central to Neurologix's Parkinson's disease program. The new allowances to U.S. Patent Number 765,446, entitled "Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) based delivery systems," broaden the patent's coverage beyond Parkinson's disease to include the use of GAD65 in the treatment of other neurological and related disorders.
