Sanofi-aventis announced today the initiation of a multinational, randomized double-blind Phase IIIb trial, PALLAS, to assess the potential clinical benefit of Multaq(R) (dronedarone) in over 10, 000 patients with permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events. The announcement was made during Heart Rhythm 2010, the Heart Rhythm Society's 31st Annual Scientific Sessions.

Dehaier Medical Systems Ltd., which develops, markets and sells medical devices and wearable sleep respiratory products in China and international markets, today announced that it has been awarded a medical equipment procurement agreement from China's Health & Anti-Poverty Program Committee ("HAPP Committee").
Scientists funded by the National Institutes of Health have identified a gene associated with narcolepsy, a disorder that causes disabling daytime sleepiness, sleep attacks, irresistible bouts of sleep that can strike at any time, and disturbed sleep at night. The gene has a known role in the immune system, which strongly suggests that autoimmunity, in which the immune system turns against the body's own tissues, plays an important role in the disorder.
For women with a rare subtype of epithelial ovarian or peritoneum cancer, known as low-grade serous carcinoma, hormone maintenance therapy may significantly improve survival, according to a new study from researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
