In a small village in West Bengal, India, 7-month-old Anwesha is oblivious to the fact that in her community, for generations before her, many newborns did not even live to see their first birthday. In an age old tradition, the community believed that the survival of the newborn or the mother is pre-determined and no extra care or immunization should interfere with the inevitable. It was only after persistent effort by CRY-supported project SSDC for a decade that the attitude of the community began to change.
Children whose parents get divorced generally don't experience detrimental setbacks in the pre-divorce period, but often fall behind their peers-and don't catch up-when it comes to math and interpersonal social skills after their parents begin the divorce process, according to a new study.
In a recent article published in MELANOMA RESEARCH and a subsequent commentary in British medical journal THE LANCET, researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center discussed new therapeutic options for the management of melanoma brain metastases. Patients with advanced melanoma are at high risk for developing brain metastases. Once brain metastases are present, these patients tend to have poor outcomes.
Teens who use the Internet pathologically appear more likely to develop depression than those who do not, according to a report posted online today that will appear in the October print issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
