Growth hormone therapy can help reverse growth problems in children with kidney failure, according to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
Inhibitex, Inc., announced today that Pfizer Inc. presented safety and immunogenicity data from a Phase 1 double-blind randomized placebo controlled study in 408 healthy volunteers of a novel three antigen Staphylococcus aureus investigational vaccine at the 21st European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and 27th International Congress of Chemotherapy in Milan, Italy.
More than 11 million children in developing countries die every year from preventable illness, while as many as 500 000 women don't survive during pregnancy or childbirth. More than 39 million people are living with HIV/AIDS and the epidemic is growing.
Women under 35 years of age with breast cancer can have an almost 20% lower risk of their disease recurring if they are treated using a new radiotherapy regime.
Kaiser Health News staff writer Kate Steadman reports: "Federal officials plan to announce Tuesday a national strategy designed to ramp up and better coordinate the government's attack on the country's HIV/AIDS epidemic, an effort to deliver on a Barack Obama campaign promise delayed by the health care overhaul debate and other issues" (Steadman, 7/12).
