Biomarkers can predict whether women will respond to the first-line treatment for endometriosis, an extremely painful condition in which the tissue usually found inside the uterus grows in places it shouldn't, according to a new study published in the Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
Scientists at Stanford University have developed a new laser therapy that destroys cancer cells but leaves healthy ones unharmed. The new, non-invasive treatment is described in a study published in the Aug. 1 online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
In the first nine months of the financial year (December 2008 - August 2009), Gerresheimer AG achieved sales of EUR 744.3m (prior year EUR 783.4m). Excluding the Technical Plastics business which has been sold, sales totaled EUR 714.9m, a reduction of 1.7% compared with the prior year. The corresponding operating margin (adjusted EBITDA) for the first three quarters continued on a high level at 17.9%.
Improving the impact of high dementia rates on Indigenous Australians and communities is the focus of a University of Queensland-led telehealth project with a global track record of success.
Moreover, results of the investigation show that this condition, known clinically as hypogonadism, is caused not by a defect in the testes, where testosterone is produced, but by improper functioning of the pituitary gland, which controls production of testosterone, or of the hypothalamus, the region of the brain that controls the pituitary.
