Genetic variations in the Sonic Hedgehog pathway increase the likelihood of recurrence, reduce survival time and limit response to therapy for people with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, scientists from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center reported today at the American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference.
Urovalve, a medical device company focused on creating superior products for urinary flow and control, announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval for the Company's Surinate® Bladder Management System, allowing Urovalve to conduct a clinical study for the Company's lead device in the United States.
"The number of bird flu cases in China jumped Sunday to 102, including 20 deaths, the World Health Organization announced," CNN reports, noting 70 patients remain hospitalized with the new H7N9 avian flu strain and the "WHO said there is still no evidence of human-to-human transmission" (Gray/Armstrong, 4/22).
The Institute for Population Health Improvement (IPHI) has received grants totaling $423,236 from the California HealthCare Foundation and The California Endowment to increase awareness of evidence-based policies to address a wide range of health issues facing California and the nation.
Indianapolis, St. Louis, Detroit, Buffalo, Richmond and Providence - cities scattered across the eastern half of the United States - have something in common, all have coal-fired power plants. A new study from the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is among the first to investigate mercury deposits in industrialized city soil near this type of facility.
