Research from the University of Bath has found a greater number of 'escaping genes' on the X chromosome than have been previously detected, with implications for the understanding of mental impairment in humans.
DURECT Corporation (Nasdaq: DRRX) today reported that it has signed an exclusive long term excipient supply agreement with respect to REMOXY(R) with King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: KG). This agreement stipulates the terms and conditions under which DURECT will supply to King, based on DURECT's manufacturing cost plus a specified percentage mark-up, two key excipients used in the manufacture of REMOXY.
A new study has shown that women who use new type of contraceptive pills are twice as likely to develop life threatening blood clots as those who take older versions. Oral hormonal contraceptives have been known to increase the risk of a blood clot in deep leg veins, known as venous thromboembolism (VTE). These can prove fatal if they travel to the lungs. But, researchers at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, found the "third-generation" pills are doubly harmful than the older versions.
The presence of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the blood can boost the effects of daily cannabis use and heighten the risk of developing psychosis in adulthood.
79 million American adults have prediabetes and will likely develop diabetes later in life, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As the number of people diagnosed with diabetes continues to grow, researchers are focusing on discovering why the prevalence of the disease is increasing.
