New research led by Queen's University Psychology professor Meredith Chivers finds that men's reports of feeling sexually aroused tend to match their physiological responses, while women's mind and body responses are less aligned.
The New York Times reports: "The nation's drive toward computerized medical records is getting a push from big hospitals, which hope not only to improve patient care but to gain an edge on competitors. And an effort to be announced on Monday by a big New York regional hospital group may be the most ambitious effort of this type yet — a sizable investment intended as a linchpin in the group's $400 million commitment to digitize patient records throughout its system, including 13 hospitals."
IMS Health, the world's leading provider of market intelligence to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, today announced third-quarter 2009 revenue of $540.8 million, down 6 percent or 4 percent constant dollar, compared with $573.7 million in the year-earlier period. Net loss for the 2009 third quarter was $9.3 million and diluted earnings per share was $(0.05) compared with net income of $75.9 million and EPS of $0.41 in the third quarter of 2008.
Cardiac marker POC tests are now widely used in hospitals and have emerged as a successful model of the concept of point-of-care diagnostics, according to a new report from Kalorama Information. The 2008 world market for POC cardiac enzymes and tests is estimated at $490 million, and growing at 12% a year for the past three years, according to "Point of Care Diagnostics 2010 and Beyond: Rapid Testing at a Crossroads," from healthcare market research publisher Kalorama Information.
