Two new studies emphasize the importance of delivering measles and influenza vaccines to HIV-infected individuals.
Agendia, a world leader in molecular cancer diagnostics, today announced that researchers from Agendia and leading academic centers in the U.S. and Europe will present data from multiple studies concerning Agendia's assays MammaPrint(R), BluePrint(TM), and ColoPrint(TM) at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, June 4 - 8, 2010, at McCormick Place in Chicago. MammaPrint, the company's lead product, is the only FDA-cleared breast cancer recurrence test.
Researchers at the RIKEN-Max Planck Joint Research Center in Japan have demonstrated that hallmark symptoms of Alzheimer's disease can be reduced when sugars are prevented from binding to one of the key enzymes implicated in the disease. The new findings, reported in EMBO Molecular Medicine, show that abnormal attachment of a particular sugar to the enzyme BACE1 is a critical factor leading to the formation of Aβ plaques in the brain, and that plaques were reduced and cognitive performance improved when this action was prevented in mice through loss of the enzyme GnT-III.
In the July 9 issue of the journal Science, California Institute of Technology neuroscientists Sam Musallam, Brian Corneil, Bradley Greger, Hans Scherberger, and Richard Andersen report on the Andersen lab's success in getting monkeys to move the cursor on a computer screen by merely thinking about a goal they would like to achieve, and assigning a value to the goal.
