New research suggests that the presence or absence of two proteins may be important markers for long-term survival in some breast-cancer patients.
Researchers from the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust have introduced an alternative method to diagnose the cause of death, which in many cases can replace the need for the traditional invasive autopsy. This can be purchased by the family and will be performed within the NHS hospitals.
There are several challenges to be overcome if therapeutic anticancer vaccines, which are designed to boost the patient's anticancer immune response, are to be successfully developed. For example, the viruses used to deliver the tumor protein to the patient's immune system are themselves targeted by the patient's immune system, inducing neutralizing and suppressive responses. But now, a team of researchers, led by Michael Morse, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, has developed a way to overcome these neutralizing and suppressive responses by using an alphavirus packaged in virus-like replicon particles.
Today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved over-the-counter Nexium® 24HR (esomeprazole 20mg) marking a key step towards providing those who suffer from frequent heartburn broader access to a brand doctors and patients have trusted for years.
