Mobile phones could play a valuable role in helping HIV patients to take their medication every day, according to a new Cochrane Systematic Review. The researchers found that patients were less likely to miss doses if they were sent weekly mobile phone text message reminders.
A new study from India raises questions about the dangers to human health of farming chicken with growth-promoting antibiotics-including some of the same drugs used in raising millions of chickens in the United States and worldwide.
As part of the Ugandan government's HIV prevention program, "[m]ore than 380,000 Ugandan men have been circumcised in the last two years," according to new data, IRIN reports. "Uganda's male circumcision program was launched in September 2010, targeting 80 percent of uncircumcised men - about 4.2 million men - by 2015," the news service writes, adding, "According to the Uganda AIDS Commission's (UAC) annual performance review of the National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan (2011/2012), 380,000 men were circumcised by March 2012 under the program."
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leading RNAi therapeutics company, announced today that it has presented key pre-clinical proof-of-concept data from its RNAi therapeutic program targeting aminolevulinate synthase-1 (ALAS-1) for the treatment of porphyria including acute intermittent porphyria.
