Researchers at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Abbott and, the U.S. Air Force Research Lab announced today the results of a new study that found a direct link between physical fitness, cognitive performance, and optimal nutrition.
At the III International Symposium on Advanced Therapy for Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease, held in Madrid, the biotechnological company, Progenika, presented a DNA-chip the purpose of which is the optimisation of the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and Ulcerous Colitis).
The Wall Street Journal reports on the recent shutdown of a counterfeit drug ring in Syria, while highlighting a broader problem with counterfeit medicines in the Middle East. Authorities intercepted "millions of dollars worth of breast cancer, leukemia and other medicines … At least 65 people were detained; it couldn't be learned if they were charged. A trial date hasn't yet been set," according to the newspaper, which notes that the drug ring distributor's activities had also penetrated into some public health systems, "particularly in Iraq."
In the first study of its kind, New England Research Institutes, Inc. (NERI) in collaboration with the Division of Cardiology, San Francisco General Hospital and the University of California, San Francisco tested whether erectile dysfunction (ED) can be used to reclassify patients according to their future risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) beyond traditional risk factors (such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc).
