Sepsis is estimated to cause 11 million deaths every year in the world. Its treatment is based on the use of antibiotics and organ support measures, but many times it fails due to unsuccessful attempts at modulating the immune response.
A team of engineers and physicians in San Diego have developed a device that diffuses potent disinfectants for airborne delivery.
Transplantation of human brain cells corrected involuntary muscle spasms in rats with ischemic spinal cord injury, according to research published online October 12 and in print October 19, 2004 in the European Journal of Neurosciences by investigators at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine.
Nine thousand patients will take part in a clinical trial to determine the best method of opening narrowed coronary arteries. The results of the study may lead to substantial cost savings - and save lives.
