There's good news from UMass Medical School for overweight people with painfully arthritic hips and knees: A new study finds that obese patients who underwent knee or hip replacement surgery reported virtually the same pain relief and improved function as normal-weight joint replacement patients six months after surgery.
Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island has been selected by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to participate in the national Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (PFDN). Women & Infants is one of just eight medical centers from across the US, and the only one in the Northeast, to work collaboratively to develop and perform research studies related to women with pelvic floor disorders.
XRC Medical Imaging (XRCMI) has announced a new rapid results program offering feedback directly to patients regarding their imaging tests within 24 hours of their appointments. XRCMI Medical Director Vu Nguyen, M.D., noted that in many cases, patients will actually get their test results before they leave from their appointment. Tests in the rapid results program include diagnostic mammograms, general X-rays and bone density tests, as well as CT and ultrasound scans.
A new animal study from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, led by Dr. Christos Mantzoros, indicates that a diet containing walnuts may slow colorectal tumor growth by causing beneficial changes in cancer genes.
Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) will host an informative webinar, entitled ‘Knockdown of lncRNAs: exploring RNAi and antisense oligo methods', on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Kim Lennox, a research scientist at IDT and expert in the suppression of gene expression, will present the webinar at 9 am and 1 pm Central Standard Time.
