Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corp announced today the launch of Integra Allograft Cancellous Sponge, a compressible bone graft composed of 100% cancellous bone. The sponge-like handling characteristics of Integra Allograft Cancellous Sponge allow it to absorb fluids like saline, blood or bone marrow aspirate.
A team of researchers from the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Centre's Viral Research and Experimental Medicine Centre found that immune cells undergoing stress and an altered metabolism are the reasons why some individuals become sick from viral infections while others do not, when exposed to the same virus.
One of the first studies of provider-patient communication regarding weight-management and associated electronic medical records finds that many benchmarks of quality weight-management care are not met during primary-care visits with overweight Latino children.
After an appendectomy, a quarter (24.8%) of all children wanted a stronger pain treatment in the first 24 hours after their operation.
A new study in the June issue of Cell Metabolism, a Cell Press publication, sheds light on the action of the drug ezetimibe (trade name Zetia), which is used to treat high cholesterol. Ezetimibe is unique among cholesterol-lowering drugs in that it works by cutting the amount of cholesterol taken in from the diet rather than by blocking cholesterol's manufacture in the body.
