A new Commonwealth Fund report shows that women in the United States are in much worse shape, health care-wise, than women in 10 nations that have universal health care. Even insured American women are more likely to go without needed health care because of the cost and difficulty paying medical bills. The report was published online July 13. According to the report, the Affordable Care Act has brought coverage to millions of women already and is expected to improve women's health care in coming years.
California officials said three of the state's largest health insurers illegally denied speech and occupational therapy to patients, and regulators fined one of the companies, Health Net Inc., $300,000 for repeated violations. The state Department of Managed Health Care said Monday that it ordered Health Net, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California to stop denying medically necessary therapy in cases of developmental disabilities, autism and other medical conditions.
A new study conducted at the University College London, UK, found a new marker that has the capacity to help diagnose fatal breast cancer up to one year earlier than existing methods.
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Strensiq (asfotase alfa) as the first approved treatment for perinatal, infantile and juvenile-onset hypophosphatasia (HPP).
