A chemist who has made important discoveries in both the human brain and sustainable energy, a neurosurgeon who has done pioneering work mapping the "blueprint" of how humans speak and hear, and a computer scientist who has changed our understanding of the capacity of wireless networks are the three winners of the 2015 Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists.
As the patient centered medical home moves onto the front burner as a model for transforming health care delivery, thought leaders are focusing on four key elements essential to making the model successful. These elements—care coordination, expanded access, meaningful health IT and new financial models—will be the foundation for the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative's March 30 Stakeholder's Meeting in Washington, DC at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center.
A new study has shown that over a quarter of those who shave, wax or use laser hair removal for grooming pubic hair might be in for some form of mishap during the process. For the study the researchers placed questionnaires to participants regarding their approach to pubic hair grooming.
New research from the University of Virginia School of Medicine explains why obesity causes harmful inflammation that can lead to diabetes, clogged arteries and other health problems. Doctors may be able to use this knowledge to battle these chronic diseases and others driven by damaging inflammation.
Following a priority review, Health Canada has approved Lucentis (ranibizumab) as a treatment for vision loss resulting from retinal vein occlusion (RVO). This makes Lucentis the first approved treatment of its class in Canada for this debilitating condition. Patients will now have access to a treatment that is proven to be effective and has an established safety profile.
