Brain tumors called ependymomas that occur in different parts of the central nervous system appear to arise from subpopulations of stem cells called radial glia cells (RGCs), according to investigators at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The discovery explains why some identical-looking ependymomas are actually distinctly different diseases, the researchers said.
American Medical Systems, a leading provider of world-class devices and therapies for male and female pelvic health, today announced that eight GreenLight HPS® laser consoles have been acquired for public hospitals in the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland. The laser technology will treat patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), a non cancerous enlargement of the prostate experienced by 50 percent of men over 60.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has announced in a statement that the cholera epidemic in West and Central Africa is one of the worst the area has ever seen. So far this year more than 85,000 cases have been reported in the region, including 2,466 deaths.
A study involving UT Southwestern neurology researchers found lower-quality outcomes for Hispanic ischemic stroke patients who receive endovascular thrombectomies than for comparable white and Black patients.
