Chemotherapy is one of the most common treatments for cancer patients. However, many patients suffer from serious side-effects and a large proportion does not respond to the treatment. Researchers from the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC) and Center for Healthy Aging, University of Copenhagen, now show that the gene FBH1 helps turn up the effect of chemotherapy.
Georgetown neuroscientists say they have identified how people can have a "crash in visual processing" -; a bottleneck of feedforward and feedback signals that can cause us not to be consciously aware of stimuli that our brain recognized.
Studies have shown that a simple treatment called lipid emulsion therapy -; fatty acids administered intravenously -; can heal damage to the heart after a heart attack or cardiac arrest. But researchers haven't understood exactly how the treatment works or whether there are more effective ways to repair the heart.
Angiocidin, a novel tumor-inhibiting protein, has been shown to reduce acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells in vivo by almost two-thirds in pre-clinical experiments.
