Sangart, Inc., today announced that enrollment was completed in a Phase IIa clinical study of MP4OX (oxygenated pegylated hemoglobin) in severely injured trauma patients with hemorrhagic shock causing lactic acidosis. Complete study results are expected, after follow up of outcomes in these patients, in the second half of 2010.
According to latest findings, medical errors do not happen at hospitals alone. They are also seen in the doctor's offices as well. The study reporters note that about half of U.S. malpractice payments - a proxy for medical errors - from 2009 involved patients seen outside of the hospital.
This year, Carilion Clinic has paid approximately 80 percent of the health care premium costs for full-time employees. Beginning in 2011, the region's largest employer will decrease its contribution significantly, absorbing an average of 66 percent of the premium costs.
Patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases who are treated with anti-tumor necrosis factor medications are significantly more likely to experience herpes zoster infections than those treated with traditional disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, study results show.
The California Department of Public Health has issued an annual report which for the first time allows residents to compare patient infection rates at hospitals across the state. The state released the infection data for 2009 and 2010 on Friday. Hospitals had sued the state to limit surgical infection reporting but the court ruled against the hospitals and required disclosures for 29 different surgical procedures.
