AdvanSource Biomaterials Corporation, a leading developer, manufacturer and seller of advanced polymer technologies and materials for a broad range of medical devices, today announced that it has received a "Notice of Allowance" from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in connection with its antimicrobial patent application filed in June 2007. U.S. Patent No. 7,772,296, which is entitled "Antimicrobial Polyurethane Resins and Products Made Therefrom," covers a drug-free, antimicrobial technology to eradicate Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ("MRSA") clinical infections associated with medical devices.
A novel minimally invasive surgery for young children living with a difficult-to-treat progressive form of scoliosis, known as juvenile idiopathic scoliosis, may eliminate the need for spinal fusion later in adolescence, according to new research by surgeons from Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, Mo. The study was presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition in San Francisco.

The grant will build on a new approach to TB vaccine design that is based on genetically altered Mycobacterium smegmatis, which is closely related to the bacterial species (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) that causes TB in humans.
