In the early 1990s, drug production in Colombia diversified to include heroin as well as cocaine, and since then the country's role in the heroin trade has substantially increased. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Colombia produced approximately 70 to 100 metric tons of heroin between 1998 and 2004. Studies have found an increase in local heroin use since the mid-1990s. This is a strong cause for concern, given the potential for HIV to spread through networks of injection drug users and disseminate to the general public.
Low levels of naturally occurring antibodies may represent an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, particularly stroke in men. This discovery, published in the academic journal Atherosclerosis, has now led to attempts to develop an immunization against cardiovascular disease.
Over the past decades, the idea that all adults should get regularly screened for cancer - with mammograms, colonoscopies and prostate specific antigen blood tests - has been conveyed to the public time after time.
The U.S. District Court in the District of Delaware has ordered the dismissal of two patent infringement claims originally filed by Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) against Knowles Electronics. The order was issued pursuant to the withdrawal of its claims by Analog Devices under a stipulation of dismissal signed by both parties.
