New Maryland legislation protects minors from cancer risks caused by UV-radiation of indoor tanning

New Maryland legislation to protect youth from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is based on significant scientific evidence that indoor tanning before the age of 30 is undeniably linked to increased risk of developing the disease. Senator James N. Robey and Delegate William A. Bronrott represent a broad-based coalition of 20 legislators in the Senate and House co-sponsoring cross-filed bills SB 718 and HB 1039 to prohibit minors' use of tanning devices in tanning facilities and prevent any marketing offers of these services to minors.

U.K. launches emergency response to fight cholera outbreak in Sierra Leone

"The U.K. government has activated a £2 million $3.16 million emergency plan to help tackle a cholera epidemic sweeping through Sierra Leone," the Press Association reports, adding, "The Department for International Development (DfID) says it is using a network that includes private businesses and specialist aid organizations to deliver emergency medical, water and sanitation assistance to affected people in the west African state."
