Melanoma patients with high levels of a protein that controls the expression of pro-growth genes are less likely to survive, according to a study led by researchers at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and published online in the journal Molecular Cell.
Ebola virus (EboV) is the cause of sporadic outbreaks of highly fatal infections in Africa that are unpredictable in onset and rapid in progression. There is no effective vaccine or therapy for EboV infection.
Kaiser Health News: "Most health industry sectors are winners - some bigger than others - under sweeping health care legislation that will expand coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans over the next decade, analysts say." Hospitals and drug makers are both winners; insurers could go either way, depending on long-term cost trends; and, doctors "got a pass," according to one expert (Galewitz, 3/22).
Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah today announced the opening of the Cancer Population Sciences and Huntsman Center for Health Outcomes and Population Equity, a new research and clinical space dedicated to preventing cancer and improving health among underserved populations and improving outcomes in cancer patients.
