Fast food restaurants take a lot of heat for the rise in obesity in the United States, but is it really their fault? A research survey conducted by two food economists revealed that most people believe individuals are to blame for their own obesity - not restaurants, grocery stores, farmers, or government policies. One implication from this research is that creating and enforcing public policies to help reduce obesity and/or encourage healthier food choices may not be as effective as policy makers would like.
There is some evidence that cranberry juice may decrease the number of occasions when people notice they have a urinary tract infection (UTI), a Cochrane Systematic Review has found.
COVID-19 has changed the world in unimaginable ways. Some have even been positive, with new vaccines developed in record time. Even the extraordinary lockdowns, which have had severe effects on movement and commerce, have had beneficial effects on the environment and therefore, ironically, on health.
World-first avalanche prediction technology developed in his spare time by ANSTO scientist Dr Warwick Payten could save hundreds of lives each year. Heli-skiing expert Roddy Mackenzie and retired ANSTO physicist John Tendys collaborated with Dr Payten on the project.
