Young adults at genetic risk for psychosis show reduced activity in the default mode network area of the brain compared with those without such a family history, researchers report.
The FDA announced Thursday that it is beginning a pilot project with Medicare officials in an effort to get new medical products covered sooner for the nation's 45 million senior citizens. Under the proposal, the FDA would review and make approval decisions alongside the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which decides whether and how to pay for new medical products for its elderly and disabled patients once they are approved for the U.S. market," Reuters reported.
Ovarian and breast cancer treatments being developed that mix a protein inhibitor and traditional anticancer drugs are showing signs of success, according to a new review for Faculty of 1000 Biology Reports.
New research shows that women regularly screened for ovarian cancer are just as likely to die from the disease. This comes as no surprise as there are still no adequate detection methods, says Ovarian Cancer Australia. Of the 1,200 Australian women diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, 800 die, often because it is diagnosed too late to be treated.
Biomedical engineering researchers have developed daisy-shaped, nanoscale structures that are made predominantly of anti-cancer drugs and are capable of introducing a "cocktail" of multiple drugs into cancer cells.
