Researchers from the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, working with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Genentech, have discovered new insights into how asthma may be caused, by identifying three distinct groups of asthma patients characterised by the activity of different genes in an individual's airways.
"Results of a major HIV prevention trial suggest that daily use of a product - whether a vaginal gel or an oral tablet - does not appear to be the right approach for preventing HIV in young, unmarried African women," a press release from the Microbicide Trials Network reports.
"President Obama will deliver his 2013 State of the Union Address on Tuesday, February 12," Jenny Ottenhoff, policy outreach associate at the Center for Global Development (CGD), and Beth Schwanke, senior associate for policy outreach at CGD, write in the center's "Global Development: Views from the Center" blog.
