Azoi, a technology company dedicated to helping people improve their lives, today announced Wello – an innovative health monitoring device embedded within a mobile phone case. With just a few powerful sensors, Wello fits onto a smartphone and measures a number of key vitals including blood pressure, electrocardiography (ECG), heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature, lung functions and more – with a high level of accuracy. With the help of a warning system which measures the risk of dengue incidence using precipitation and air temperature, it is possible to forecast the outbreak of dengue fever up to 16 weeks in advance.
Researchers from the University of Geneva and the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics led an analysis of the sequenced genomes of parasitic wasps. Generally unknown to the public, the parasitic wasps kill pest insects. They are like 'smart bombs' that seek out and kill only specific kinds of insects.
A Link between the level of active DNA repair genes in melanoma tumours and the effectiveness of chemotherapy for skin cancer patients has been established for the first time by a team of scientists.The study, part-funded by Cancer Research UK and published in Clinical Cancer Research today (Friday), found that higher levels of DNA repair genes in melanoma tumours were associated with a poorer response to chemotherapy.
