Samantha Kleinberg, a computer scientist at Stevens Institute of Technology and pioneer in wearable technologies, has secured roughly $2.3 million in three new grants by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health to develop artificial intelligence that provides personalized information to patients so they can take an active part in managing their health.
A calcium sensing protein, STIM1, known to activate store-operated calcium channels has been found to also inhibit voltage-operated calcium channels, according to researchers at Temple University.
PharmaDerm, a division of Nycomed US Inc., announced today that VEREGEN (sinecatechins) Ointment, 15%, a topical medication for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts, has been added as a new therapeutic option in the 2010 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines.
A recent Finnish study shows that high body adiposity, low physical activity, and particularly their combination are related to poorer physical fitness among 6-8 year old children. The results also suggest that physically active overweight children have better fitness compared to their inactive peers.
Anabolic steroids not only make teens more aggressive, but may keep them that way into young adulthood. The effect ultimately wears off but there may be other, lasting consequences for the developing brain.
