The across-the-board spending reductions - also known as sequestration - scheduled for March 1 could play into the partisan politics of the broader budget debate that includes Medicare, Medicaid and other entitlement programs.
Discovered only in the 1990s, microRNAs are short molecules that work within virtually all cells. Typically, each one functions as a "dimmer switch" for the expression of one or more genes, regulating a wide variety of cellular processes, including learning and memory.
An international team of researchers, led by scientists at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital in China, say a human gene implicated in the development of leukemia also acts to prevent cancer of the liver.
The preliminary result from Tripep's rights offering shows that it has been oversubscribed with significant marginal (approximately 150%). Through the offering Tripep will receive approximately 17.8 MSEK before emission costs. The final outcome of the emission will be presented around the 30th of December 2009.
Current treatments for HIV block the virus from replicating, but don't kill the cells that contain HIV. The existence of these HIV-harboring cells - often called the "latent" or "resting reservoir" - is regarded by many to be the main obstacle to finding a cure for HIV.
